Label TextIn Western Art #2, Michael Stone re-frames our perceptions, somewhat playfully. He photographed an authentic western landscape, located in New Mexico. It recalls romantic vistas of historic art. Yet a paved highway propels a freight truck into the distance. Stone digitally inserted an image of a frame that isolates the cargo carrier. Within the frame, he digitally blurred the scene, which contrasts with the sharp realism outside the frame. Is western art the freight that recedes into the distance? Is western art a distortion or a reality? The work invites the viewer to interpret. Connect with C.M. Russell’s Friend Goodwin [Philip R. Goodwin].
