Ferguson Brothers Manufacturing Company

American, 1903 - 1953
BiographyThe Ferguson Brothers Manufacturing Company was a family-owned business that began in the late 19th century. The company was incorporated in 1903 and registered in Hoboken, New Jersey, where they maintained a factory which employed up to 600 workers. They ceased operation in 1953 when they were purchased by Sun-Glo Industries, who moved their entire operation to West Virginia.

The company described itself as a manufacturer of ‘furniture novelties’, and their entry in the 1934 Department of State corporations register lists their products as “novelties, folding screens, folding tables, cedar chests, smoker stands, cellarettes and humidors”.

The company was known for its inexpensive Depression-Era reproductions of American Colonial revival furniture made in the 19th century, in particular copying the style of the celebrated furniture maker Duncan Phyfe. They produced a large number of tilt-top card tables, many with pie crust edges or decorated veneer surfaces, along with a large number of magazine racks, folding chairs and other small items of furniture.
