Audubon and Alexander WilsonLabel TextWebber produced a book that extolled his passions for natural history and hunting. He wrote about John James Audubon as a scientist who was also an adventurer. Webber included illustrations by Alfred Jacob Miller. Miller’s Hunting the Grizzly expresses Webber’s admiration for the chase. The Rosenthals firm used chromolithography to make some of the illustrations. In 1851, this was a new method to print in color. It allowed Webber to present a book that kept the artistic quality of Miller’s art. Yet, the book was less expensive than one with hand-colored pictures.
