Label TextBy 1967 when she painted this work, O’Keeffe had settled permanently in New Mexico, a location that nourished her art. This painting’s title points to a different source of inspiration. This plant, the exotic heliconia, was a floral subject O’Keeffe had first painted in 1939 after a trip to Hawaii.
