Label TextThis painting shows the artist’s use of slashing brushstrokes and bold palette knife. Fechin developed his art from the dual influences of his native Russian and immigrant American experiences. Fechin (generally accepted pronunciation: fay SHIN) was born in Kazan, Russia. He studied in the academic tradition. Fechin came to the United States in 1923. He settled a few years later in Taos, New Mexico. In 1936 he made an important trip to Mexico where he found engaging subjects such as this boy.
