Label TextCharles Alexander Eastman (Ohiyesa) (1858-1939) was an author, medical doctor, and advocate for Native American causes. Born in Minnesota, Eastman was Santee Sioux (Dakota) and also the grandson of Anglo-American artist and army officer Seth Eastman. In his book Indian Boyhood, Charles Eastman recounted his traditional Indian upbringing. He went on to graduate from Dartmouth College, earn his medical degree from Boston University, and become well known for his writings and lectures.
