Label TextFechin traveled to Mexico to find inspiring subjects for his art, especially among people of the countryside, the peasants. In this portrait of a grandmother, he used dark orange with brown for the skin tones and the head covering. This gives a warmth to the portrayal of the matriarch. With his depiction of her strong features and demeanor, he created a portrait of great dignity.
