Label TextThe figure on the left is identified in the Portrait Log as Cish-a-wee-lish; the figure on the right is See-pays, the Salmon Chief at Colville. Concerning See-pays, "No one is allowed to catch fish without his permission. His large fishing basket or trap is put down a month before anyone is allowed to fish for themselves.... The chief distributes the fish thus taken during the season amongst his people, everyone, even to the smallest child, getting an equal share." Kane, Wanderings, Chapter XX
