DescriptionHandwritten script in black ink on white, aging paper. Ink in smudged in various locations. Letter addressed to George Hayward on July 24, 1846, introducing Audubon's nephew to Hayward and asking to borrow a book for research.Label TextJohn James Audubon maintained a network of contacts. He wrote to George Hayward, a professor at Harvard University. Audubon’s letter was an introduction for his nephew. Hayward was also a trustee of the Boston Medical Library. Audubon asked to borrow a book on mammals by C.J. Temminck. He needed the book for research. Audubon was working on The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America.
