Label TextPaul Kane traveled across North America from Toronto to the Pacific Coast and back in the years 1845-1848. He was able to witness and participate in buffalo hunts when the animals were still abundant on the land. "Seeing a very large bull in the herd, I thought I would kill him, for the purpose of getting the skin of his enormous head and preserving it,” wrote Kane in Wanderings of an Artist among the Indians of North America, chapter XX.
