Label TextElizabeth Blackwell wrote about the uses of May-Weed, “Some Authors commend the Plant as good against Vapours and Hysteric Fits.” Blackwell began producing an herbal as a way to make income, since her husband Alexander was in debtor’s prison. For her two-volume publication she drew over 500 plants, prepared the text, engraved the plates, and colored the engravings. Her husband provided the scientific and foreign names for the plants, including the Spanish manzanilla for this plant.
