Label TextFechin’s subject is the American-born dancer Lola Montes. She toured this country performing flamenco and neoclassical Spanish dances. Through dancing, Lola met her first husband and dance partner, Antonio Triana. In this painting, Fechin uses shades of orange to convey the passion and energy of the dance. Some paint strokes veer to the red, while in other places, the yellow breaks through layers. The bold, blue strokes of the underskirt provide a strong complement.
