DescriptionHorizontal water color of a meandering river with trees along its banks. Small buildings sit in agricultural fields above the river. Hills dotted with trees and brush recede away into the background and rise into the foreground below the river.Label TextSpecific parts of a landscape may reverberate as home. Settlements usually occur by rivers for the life giving qualities of water. In Hondo River, Higgins depicted the view from above, so that the painting shows the dark river meandering through the valley. The landscape shows its effects as trees line the banks of the river. Cultivated fields and houses stretch out from the river.
