DescriptionVertical oil study of a young male subject. In addition to the bust of the subject are two studies of hands and one study of an ear.Label TextFamilies can mean home, but often the definition of family can vary. William Herbert Dunton was the father of two children, Vivian and Ivan. Dunton and his wife Nellie divorced when the children were still young. Vivian and Ivan lived primarily with their mother, but spent summers with their father. The artist shared his love of the outdoors with his children, taking them on pack trips. He also made thoughtful sketch portraits of them. Ivan Dunton looked back fondly on this time with his father, “What a childhood to remember!”
