Study 36Label Text“This is the provocative landscape that stirs the emotions.” Photographer Laura Gilpin wrote those words about Taos Mountains. Author Mabel Dodge Luhan began her book Taos and Its Artists with that sentence. Luhan described the half-circle of mountains as “tender and strong, sometimes darkening dramatically.” These mountains “embraced the oasis that is named Taos.” Dunton made his home in the village of Taos and found inspiration in the nearby mountains.
