Label TextSome of Fechin’s most beautiful portraits depict his only child Eya. The art historian Galina Tuluzakova noted his emotional content. “Portraits of Eya are imbued with fatherly love and affection.” Eya played a central role in family support for her father. In 1933, Fechin’s wife Alexandra asked for a divorce. The split resulted in Nicolai’s leaving Taos and the house he had designed and furnished. Eya chose to go with her father, first to New York and then to California.
