DescriptionNew Year's card sent to Mr. & Mrs. Richard Jones, all hand-drawn.Label TextRussell loved to send holiday cards to friends. Most of his messages were not conventionally religious, but were full of good wishes. Here he drew a cowboy hoisting a whiskey bottle to toast the New Year. In 1908, Russell had quit drinking alcohol, but he continued to use it as a symbol of good cheer. He hand wrote a poem wishing a long and easy life for his friends Dick and Peggy Jones. Dick Jones worked at Como Company where Russell had many of his paintings framed.
What makes a holiday greeting meaningful?
