BiographyThe Colgate Company formed in 1806 creating soap products. In 1928 it was purchased by Peet-Palmolive. Peet was dropped from the name leaving the company with the name Colgate-Palmolive. The formula for the first Palmolive soap was created in 1896. It was composed exclusively of palm oil and olive oil. Colegate-Palmolive's biggest competator still today is Proctor & Gamble, the makers of Tide laundry detergent.
