DescriptionBasilia, Switzerland, 1542. 898 pages. Full length hand-colored drawing of author Leonhart Fuchs (Leonhartus Fuchsius) verso title page; drawings of artists Heinrich Füllmaurer (Heinricus Füllmaurer), Albrecht Meyer (Albertus Meyer) and Veit Rudolph Specklin (Vitus Rodolph Speckle) on page 897. Woodcuts of Indian corn and pumpkin first example of American plants.
Label TextFuchs, a German doctor, produced the book Notable Commentaries on the History of Plants, an important, early herbal. Fuchs’ book was significant because of its detailed illustrations.
