"A T-riffic Mountain Car"
Specially designed for the rugged foothills of the family ranch in Colorado, this Model T is a custom-made hunting truck. Lutcher loved the ranch with its high plains and mountain views. He vacationed there most of his life. Many of the family’s cars, including Lutcher’s old Hupmobile, ended up at the ranch.
Much of Lutcher’s collection came from purchases made and artists he met while traveling between the ranch and Orange. Indian reservations and Taos, New Mexico, were two of his favorite side trips. He developed lasting relationships with several Taos artists and functioned as an important patron for the community.
ProvenanceH.J. Lutcher Stark [1887-1965]; by inheritance to Nelda C. Stark [1909-1999]; gifted August 31, 1971 to the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation; accessioned to The W.H. Stark House
