Label TextBaumann printed trial proofs for each color of a planned final print, such as Bound for Taos. This sheet shows the results obtained by printing the carved purple block, which is near this proof. The purple color provided clumps of vegetation, probably sagebrush, along the road. It defined the mountain peaks. For the actual print, Baumann printed each color on a single piece of paper. Sometimes he planned to overprint one color over another, creating a new color. The final print came from printing all the blocks. He repeated the process to make multiple prints.
