McKenney held important positions in Indian Affairs in the U.S. government. He commissioned portraits for a collection known as the Indian Gallery. He also reproduced the paintings as prints in a book. King painted two versions of Nesouaquoit. See the painting of Nesouaquoit at the end of this gallery wall. In both portraits, the Fox leader wears a peace medal, given by the U.S. government to Indian leaders. His medal features a portrait of President Andrew Jackson, who signed the Indian Removal Act.
