DescriptionStudy 24Label TextThroughout his career, Dunton made many studies of animals so that he could portray them accurately. For McMullin, Guide, he painted oil studies of McMullin’s hunting dogs in characteristic poses, and he identified them by name. He then used these works to portray the dogs naturalistically in the final painting.
