Label TextDunton sketched Mexican vaqueros as they prepared to brand cattle. Cattle raisers use the brand to mark ownership of their cattle. The identification was especially important in the days of the open range. Cattle from different outfits would graze in the same lands. At roundup time, the cowboys would separate cattle by their brands.
