Label TextPatrick Taylor competes in calf roping. Tie down roping is another name for the event. Russell photographed Taylor with his horse. Taylor is not mounted; instead, both cowboy and horse stand their ground. For the roping event, it is especially important that the rider and horse work well together. The cowboy on horseback must chase the calf and rope it. He then must tie three legs together in the shortest amount of time. The rodeo event came from ranch tasks of capturing animals for branding or medical reasons.
